This week we begin learning about close reading. Close reading is where students first listen to a text. Then student read again looking for who the story is about, where the story takes place, What do they want, what is preventing them from getting it, and how they overcome the challenge. Then students reeread for gist, which is the main idea or moral of the story.
Today we read, Waiting for the Biblioburro. It's a cute story about a little girl named, Ana. Their village teacher moved away, taking with her all her books. Ana only has one book, which she reads over and over, until she has memorized it. She wants so desperately to have more books! Then one day, she hears a noise, and her life changes! Ask your child more about this story to find out the ending! We are continuing to work on our independent skills during our skills block. I am also teaching students how to participate in a book club or reading group. We have also begun to work on our cursive! In math, students are continuing to learn about addition and subtraction with Kumu Folau. There is no math homework this week. Please practice addition facts with your student and get in any missing math homework to me! Thank you! DON'T FORGET: Sept. 27th, Thursday, is our first library day. Please send in a copy of your child's library card or send in their application! Thank yoU!! HOMEWORK:
SUPPLIES STILL NEEDED: Families, if you are able to help with some supplies, we are still in need of these things. Thank you so much for your help, we couldn't do this without you! Thanks in advance, thanks for partnering with me in your child's education!
